Some Retrans Battles Resolved, Others Linger

The New Year saw the resolution - and in some cases the extension - of retransmission consent battles between broadcasters and video providers. The skirmishes involved broadcasters and pay-TV companies big and small.
Here is a breakdown of some of the discussions:
*Fisher Communications said it signed retrans agreements with Comcast and Charter. The Comcast deal covers stations in Seattle, Portland, Ore., and Eugene, Ore. Fisher's stations are carried on Charter's systems in the Seattle, Portland, Eugene and Yakima areas.
*KELO in Sioux Falls, S.D., said it finalized deals with cable and satellite TV companies for carriage of its signals across South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. KELO also said it completed a deal with Mediacom just before New Year's Eve. Quad Cities station KWQC said it reached a retrans agreement with Mediacom.
*Still, some video services dropped stations. In Bend, Ore., BendBroadband dropped Fox affiliate KFXO after rejecting the MSO's compromise on compensation. DIRECTV was forced to take away KJZZ, known for its carriage of Utah Jazz basketball games, from its local channel lineup in Salt Lake City. And DISH Network removed KTKA from its locals lineup for Topeka, Kan., due to an ongoing skirmish.
